Truth for Today Medical Missions “Caring hands reaching hardened hearts”

There are many ways to serve on a medical evangelism mission. We can use both medical and non medical personnel.

Duties of medical personnel might include triage, vital signs, simple lab, pharmacy assistant, pharmacy director, provider assistant, or medical provider.  We will try to use all medical personnel at the highest possible level.

Depending on the volunteers and the country we are working in some missions might also include general surgery, surgical assistants, surgical technicians, general dentistry, and dental assistants.

Duties of  non medical personnel might include crowd control (very important with a large crowd), counting for the pharmacy, children’s ministries, central supply, clinic setup, assistant to medical personnel, registration, soul winning, and other duties in keeping with the talents of the individual. Volunteers who are fluent in the language of the country are greatly needed as translators.

One of the most exciting ways for non medical personnel to be involved is to assist in the vision clinics. We train non medical persons to use a laser autorefractor and focometer to measure eye refractions in the vision clinics.  We take them through the process of selecting the correct pair of glasses based on the prescription obtained.  The joy of seeing a person's life transformed by a simple pair of glasses is indescribable!

Vision training will generally be held on a Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm with a break for lunch.  There is no charge for the training but participants will need to provide transportation, lodging, and their meals.  Usual training sessions will be held in Wichita, KS.  For larger groups training sessions could be scheduled in other areas.  Please note that this training is designed solely for participants in Truth For Today Medical Missions overseas ministries.  No degree or certificate will be conferred on participants.  The skills taught in this training are not intended to be used for profit or in the United States.

For information on the vision training please contact our Vision Director at vision@truthfortodaymedicalmissions.org.
